Introduction

April 11th, 2008:

Well, I’ve finally given in to the blogging bug. I knew it was coming, but just wanted to deny it for a while yet.

So let’s start with an introduction first:

My name is Rev. C.J. Wiles-Rogers, but I am generally called ‘Jaimie’ (or Mom, or Mummaw, or Grandma depending on who is calling!). I am a homeschooling mom and grandmother, who was also homeschooled through high school. I have a Master’s in Elementary Education, and AgriSciences, a Doctorate in Theology, and I’m currently trying to complete the certification required for a Master Herbalist, and then I’ll be working on a Master Gardener’s Certification. I love learning and don’t think we should ever stop!

We live on our little (or not so little since it is over 32 acres) slice of paradise on the Mississippi Gulf Coast (just 10 minutes to the sandy beaches), and are actively working to rebuild and restore our ranch since Hurricane Katrina and her aftermath devastated our area and disrupted our lives. We lost 95% of our ranch animals, and all of our buildings including the ranch house (along with all of our personal, company, and ministry belongings – but the loss of our library was a huge thing because it was a lifetime worth of resource items, walls of  books of every type, and our computers), our barns, animal shelters and pole barns, orchards, vineyard, pens, and extensive amounts of fencing! We lived first in tents, and then God blessed us with a travel trailer and pop-up trailer from to godly families who wanted to help with the recovery effort, then recently we purchased a 16’ X 80’ manufactured home, and are now working to buy a 32’ X 80’ manufactured home, which will give us enough room.

At this time we (my darling husband of 28 years and I) have had 111 children come through our doors (by birth, by adoption, and through state and private foster care). Our children range in age from 12 to 31 years, and then there are the grandchildren!

The human and animal population is always subject to change around here, so it can be pretty interesting. We have an assortment of our own dogs and cats, and also foster for the humane society. We also raise chickens, geese, ducks, turkeys, and rabbits but have not completed the necessary repairs and rebuilding for the larger farm animals.

We have vegetable and herb gardens that supply our food, and are working towards becoming as self-sufficient as possible. We can, freeze, and dry our produce.

In the coming entries I will be journaling our many adventures and experiences as we continue to rebuild, grow, and work towards accomplishing our dreams and visions.

~ Jaimie
